I decided to stop competing and become a happy hacker', simply because I felt competing was taking the fun out of riding for me.
A couple of years ago my husband got bitten by the horse bug.
He is quite a large man and one of his first encounters in riding was on a Clydesdale stallion named Quentin.
The rest was history and we bought a Clyde called Sherman who became his new best friend. As a dressage rider, Clydesdales never occurred to me, probably because of their size. Sherman was such an amazing, easy, intelligent, quick to learn horse, that I too became hooked on Clydesdales.
I then bought Titus, still convinced that Sherman's great attitude was a 'fluke, as all my previous horses had some sort of issue, whether it was spooking or bucking or both! Let's face it, it is a bit of a daunting prospect having those same issues on a two tonne Tessie!
Sherman was no fluke: Titus was as great a horse as he was, and they both can jump, do dressage, swim, and outride.
